Binding Spell

A binding spell is a magical formula intended to “bind” or restrain a person’s will or behavior. Examples of binding spells include love spells, attempts to silence enemies, or any other magic intended to force or restrain the behavior or actions of another. As a form of sympathetic magic, many binding spells involve the use of knots, pins, or other symbolic restraints. In older spells, it is spirits or ghosts who are symbolically “bound” until they fulfill the demands of the spell caster.

The binding spell is probably one of the oldest types of magic known to man. Examples have been found all over the globe, and they were especially popular in classical Greece and Rome. Other versions have been found in such diverse cultures as Celtic Europe and ancient Egypt. Most called on various deities or spirits to enforce the supplicant’s requests. The example illustrated below was created in Egypt around the fourth century, and is of a very common type. The little figurine is pierced with pins and accompanied by a lengthy Greek spell requesting the aid of numerous chthonic deities and spirits of the dead to compel fidelity and love:

“I entrust this binding spell to you chthonic gods, Pluto and Kore Persephone Ereschigal and Adonis also called Barbaritha and Hermes chthonian Thoth Phokensepseu Erektathou Misonktaik and Anoubis the powerful Pseriphtha, who holds the keys of Hades, and to you chthonic divine demons, the boys and girls prematurely dead, the young men and women, year after year, month after month, day after day, hour after hour, night after night; I conjure all the demons in this place to assist this demon Antinous.  Rouse yourself for me and go to each place, to each neighbourhood, to each house and bind Ptolemais whom Aias bore, the daughter of Horigenes, so that she should not be fucked, buggered, or should not give any pleasure to another man, except to me alone Sarapammon, whom Area bore; and do not let her eat nor drink nor resist nor go out nor find sleep except with me Sarapammon, whom Area bore.  I conjure you, Antinous spirit of the dead, in the name of the Terrible and the Fearsome, the name at whose sound the earth opens up, the name at whose sound the demons tremble in fear, the name at whose sound rivers and rocks burst asunder.  I conjure you, Antinous spirit of the dead, by Barbaratham Cheloumbra Barouch Adonai and by Abrasax and by Iao Pakeptoth Pakebraoth Sabarbaphaei and by Marmaraouoth and by Marmarachtha Mamazagar.  Do not disregard me, Antinous spirit of the dead, but rouse yourself for me and go to each place, to each neighbourhood, to each house and bring me Ptolemais, whom Aias bore, the daughter of Horigenes; prevent her from eating, from drinking, until she comes to me, Sarapammon, whom Area bore, and do not allow her to accept the advances of any man other than me alone Sarapammon.  Drag her by the hair, the guts, until she does not reject me, Sarapammon, whom Area bore, and I have her, Ptolemais, whom Aias bore, the daughter of Horigenes, subject to me for the entire extent of my life, loving me, desiring me, telling me what she thinks.  If you do this, I will release you.”

I have done a belief search for years and have came to realize wiccan is where I feel most passion. I also have realized that all religions are based the same and wiccan is one of the oldest and I believe that man has choose to pick and choose what they want in a religion. I respect what someone else believes as long as they don’t force what they believe on me

Can people stop arguing over religion and keep peace in their hearts for one another?
You are only feeding negativity with thoughts and words (even cyber words).
Let’s all enjoy what Nature has given us and stop wasting our energies fighting.
Peace and Love.

I agree with you. I wish you a Blessed Be

I find it interesting that christains go to sites they don’t believe in to preach to those who do not believe in their religion…. I know, I’m the devil. Or maybe a witch? What ever you want to call me, truth is, people who don’t believe in your religion don’t care about what you say. We have heard it all before. You all say the same thing. What feels powerful to you, isn’t to us. I’m not trying to be mean. And as much as we don’t care about what you say, you don’t care about what we say. So…… lets just say we agree that we don’t believe in the same thing, and leave it at that…..

You aren’t being mean, its true. You don’t have to believe in wicca, satanism, or witchcraft. The only problem with not believing is then people decide that people who do believe in it are dead to them, and take action.

I think you have a very warped view of christianity, which isn’t your fault I am a christian and I’m very open minded when it comes to other peoples beliefs I’m not on site to collect evidence against people who believe in this stuff. I’m here because I care about other peoples beliefs and I find this very interesting. Not all Christians are harsh and judgmental. I would ask you to pay us the same courtesy and not judge an entire group of people based on the few that you’ve come in contact with.

Yeah, right… I’ve seen way too many ugly christians persecuting The Other just because they feel empowered by their Group Think to do so.
The problem with your claim is that there are many hundreds of years of history that tell of christians doing unspeakably evil things in the name of their faith. Persecution is but one of those evils.
Get back to me when your fellow christians stop acting so unGodly.

He’s right. I was raised catholic but I’m now pagan. You’ve had a bad experience but the majority of Christians I’ve known have been great and for the most part, if disapproving at least still kind. People don’t have to like what you do they just have to not be docks about it.

Wow… it’s funny how a simple internet search leads you to one place that leads to another place and then yet another. Tonight, I find myself here. Though my formal religious knowledge is limited, I am a spirit and I’ve known it for a very long time. It could have been my interest in Native American culture that led me to my beliefs but it’s interesting how they all seem to lead to magic, faith, belief, intuition, vibrations, opposites, etc. It all seems so simple… yet very complex. Thanks everyone great read!

And I’ve wandered right in this spot as well it seems.Diane I feel the same way. A light bulb has gone off,a veil lifted, however one may perceive. It’s all connected, all religions, that is. We’re all just looking with different eyes and in disbelief at how another may perceive. I’ve often sat and thought these eyes of mine, simply filters. Filtering out all the energy auras. Perhaps,”eve” had no eyes

Simply symbolically un-do them.
Take cords and pray while cutting the cords….or undoing a knot it is very powerful symbolism.

It is very important to KNOW that you do not deserve and type of negativity or hinderences so you have to believe that fully.

First of all magic of any type only works if you believe it. Even Jesus could not preform “miricles” in the city that did not believe in him. If you have been to heaven and spoke to God then you are dead and no longer of this world so how are you talking on here. I am not saying its not possible to talk to God because it is. The bible is a collection of stories and beliefs from the time it was written during which time the majority of the world were of a pagan religion therefore to say that the pagan binding spell came from the bible is false. The binding spells are in the bible yes but it did not start with the bible. The person that was talking about the world being grey just said to open your eyes didnt say anything about what was real or not. Talking about the bible your not suppose to judge saying someone is misguided is a judgement hope you admit that in confession.

There is no such thing as Black or White magic. All magic is neutral it is the users intent that makes it good or bad not the magic itself. Without knowing exactly what kind of spell was placed on you there is no sure fire way of breaking the spell, and no garrenty that you would even want it broken if you knew what it actually did.
Usually not always but usually in order to break a spell it does require someone of the same or opposite practices and it would require whoever it is to be as strong or stronger than the original caster.

But back to the main topic, magic only works if the people around it believes. It can only be countered by someone that believes and knows exactly what it is that was cast. There are Hundreds of types of bindings without knowing what was done it could possible be more dangerous to try to remove it than leaving it alone. One last tidbit all spells that have a lasting effect having a binding added to it. Protection, Enchantment, Healing, Control, Blessings, Curses, Restrictive bindings, and actually binding spells all have a binding agent to them otherwise the spell would go away immediately. Only spells I can think of that dont are attack and concentration spells.

Only a wiccan would suggest to a Christian who is not strong in his faith to look outside that which is real. Being a Christian of 20yrs and coming from the ‘dark side’ i actually met Jesus..walked with him (still do) and recieve miraculous dreams and visions that involve people and events over the world…a gift i did not have until i became a Christian. Wiccan “binding’ spells so to speak are actually from the bible in Mathew where we are to bind and cast out demons and trample on scorpions ,,, for in the last days MANY WILL COME TO DECIEVE YOU. Which actually means there is only one that twists and contorts the words of God and that is satan the maste of lies and deciet,,,,the one who comes to steal kill and destroy any good in this world…temptation is his tool and even here he tempts to steal away a lamb…… silly person only the ones who cant see are the ones you try and manipulate…so many wiccans have such a poor life,,,one foot in the world and one foot in the ‘atmosphere’,,,been there found nothing but nothing and no ending,,.but i have been to heaven quite a few times and delivered messages with secrets only God would know….now believe if you will. I hope Tony keeps moving forward and away from all the temptations that dragged him down in the first place..temptation only leads to death…spiritually and or naturally. food for thought..i lack nothing.. yet i am not rich in the world…yet all my riches can only be seen by those who have a heart to see and recieve…the lambs know His voice and follow,,,they arent dragged ..bless you Tony and misguided wiccan…

You come to an article that has nothing to do with your religion, not to learn, but to instead judge us. Maybe you ought to take a break from your jesus walks and corrior jobs for God and read the part in the bible about respecting others. And while your at that you should read the full article and brush up on history. It gives us a binding spell from ANCIENT EGYPT. Your bible was written hunders and hundreds of years AFTER this time period.
You know nothing about Wiccans so don’t hate us for being different from yourself.

Lilith Thorn February 15, 2012 at 4:29 am

if a spell was cast upon you it was mostlikly done for a good reason such as binding you from danger but if black magic was cast on you it can only be revoked by the caster or someone of = or greater strength from within the pagan comunity no god can help in this mater

Black and White in a Grey World. August 9, 2009 at 8:28 pm

Dear Tony,

Love conquers all. Whether you’re a Christian or not, fear… the opposite of love has no power when you go to The Source, who you call God. Send God’s love to them and yourself through MEDITATION and learning how to undo your religious/occult brain washing, stop thinking in terms of black and white and start to learn about “out of body experiences”, “past life and inter life experiences”, start digging for truth outside of any religion, look deep inside, your subconscious has all the answers….seek to function at a higher mentality and spiritual vibration. You fear cause you don’t know yourself and the workings of the Universe. Really start seeking to find Who You Really ARE in spirit and all the things you fear lose their grip on you. I know because I used to be like you and now I have the knowledge over fear.
