The Egyptian figure pictured above is called Behedti, with the wings of Horus, and represents the omnipotence of the sun God Re, and the divinity of the Pharaoh.
An Assyrian winged disk represents the sun God Shamash:
A similar figure, the faravohar, is associated with the prophet Zoroaster.
Some believe the depiction of the winged disk in ancient cultures is based on the appearance of the sun’s corona during a solar eclipse, as seen below:

ان الشمس المجنحة ترمز الي السلطة والقوة المطلقة اي القدرات الكاملة ثعابين للحراسة مصدر القوة اجنحة للانطلاق اللامحدود ومنتصف الشعار مركز القوة والطاقة الشمس
It is beautiful and poetic. How can anybobody say that it is evil? How can the sun be evil?
To me its Gods symbol over His elightened creation. Mother Earth is His chosen bride ,among all the stars in universe,She is his beloved one,and She will spin a body around every litte spiritual seed of God, and She will create and feed their children with Her own body, . The whole universe is in love and in symbios with itself and without the sun and the moon we can´t exist. Praise to our Spiritual Father and eartly Mother who has given us the opportunity to exist as human beeings , together with one another and all beeings created . That is the great mystery, and our bewinged Sun is the seal and symbol of their love of their family.
Can you se what we are doing to her?
Thanks Ulrika. You explanation is very delightful. I just feel the good energy from your comment. Thanks. We must keep and take care of our lovely Mother Earth, who do a lot for us, as we are Children of the Earth and the Sun.

I use that symbol as a logo. When asked I say the circle is the soul, the two snakes looking in opposite directions is the world of dualities and the wings represent spirit.
I have a old booklet printed by the IBSA (International Bible Students Association) in 1916. It has one of the winged disks on the front cover. Do you know why this symbol would have been used by early Bible Students? Its use appears to have no basis in contemporary scriptural interperetation or instruction.
Very interesting. That is the JW-affiliated IBSA, right? It would seem to me it was chosen because it was a popular motif at the time; it’s also stood in for universal monotheism on occasion. I’m not familiar enough with JW history to know if there might be a deeper connection, but I can certainly investigate.
