Hi, i need to get some info on 3 symbols i medium i went to saw on visions. I tracked down them and i have them here:

I too have here a list with a lot of symbols from the same topic but i really don’t know what the topic is about:

can u point me in the right direction, maybe even give some explanation about the 3, especially the first one.

Thanks and God Bless you.

The emblems you’ve linked are all alchemical notations.  The three specifically are for tin, antimony, and arsenic.  All are metals.  Antimony and arsenic are often used in alloys with tin or lead, and by themselves are poisons.  Hope this helps!

Q: The Celtic symbol for…

Paul writes:

Is there an actual Celtic symbol for “Wisdom”? It seems quite varied across different websites. Also, is there a Celtic symbol for “Warrior”, preferably “Young Warrior”?

I understand the symbols have limited or vague meanings which can represent a number of things but can you offer any advice or point me in the right direction.

Krystle writes:

Hey I am looking to get a tattoo of the celtic symbol that resembles inner strength, but every website I go to is showing a different design, which one is the actual design?

The short answer is that these symbols generally do not exist.  We get regular requests for symbols for motherhood, strength, sisterhood, healing, love, etc.  These are all ideas that would have been completely abstract and foreign to early Celts, at least in the context of symbol designs.

I suspect the notion that there are such symbols stems in part from modern usage of emblems and in larger part from the efforts of tattoo and jewelry artists.  Around the nineties there was an explosion of Celtic knot themed jewelry, each knot being mapped to a very specific modern idea.  (This wasn’t restricted to the poor Celts, there were also similar things done with Native American and other cultural symbols.)  To this day you can walk into any new age gift shop and buy a “celtic love knot” pendant, etc.  The reason these vary so widely in design and description, however, is that they are just invented bunk.

I’m trying not to be pedantic about it, but most of the requests we get are intended for tattoos, so I want to be as clear as possible before steering anyone toward an irreversible decision!  I cannot emphasize enough: if someone presents to you a pretty Celtic knot design as an emblem of love, friendship, etc., they are trying to sell you something.  Many folks are taking Celtic knot clip art books and assigning fanciful meanings to random designs that were originally used as filler ornaments on books and tombstones.

If you want a true Celtic emblem to honor a specific ideal or heritage, there are a few that could be used without too much stretching.  Celtic animal symbols can be used for their equivalent qualities – a boar for boldness or courage, etc.   Just keep in mind that many modern ideas won’t have any truly authentic emblem.  There just are not any genuine ancient Celtic symbols of brotherhood/sisterhood, mother & son, etc.  If you wish to assign a personal meaning to a design (as in, “I chose this beautiful Celtic knot to honor my Mother’s Irish heritage/the love I have for my sister/to remind me to be courageous/etc.”) , go for it- it will have your personal imprint and will be unique and meaningful to you.

So, keeping in mind that the Celts would never have used them in this fashion, some Celtic symbols and their meanings

Q: Ring with symbols

Hi , i have a golden ring quite long , but still i can not find out what is representing or what the symbols mean , Please anyone help …
on the one side there is hand with a heart inside the hand, on the other side there is an eye , in between all this there is some kind of symbol (like a book but not exactly ) with 2 swards going inside and letters F(left) T (right) and L above all this ….

Sounds like you have an Odd Fellows ring.  The “FTL” stands for friendship, truth, and love.   You can read a little about the heart in hand symbol here.  Wikipedia has a good overview of the Odd Fellows:

Hi there, in my class today, we covered symbols, representations, and meanings. When discussing the basic symbol of the cross (vertical line crossing a horizontal line), we discussed some of the meaning found in each of these lines. It was a very interesting discussion we had, and I wanted to ask if you could share your source(s) used in the development of “The Secret Language of Symbols” article (specifically, about the cross). Thanks for sharing and thanks for your knowledge!

Jennifer April 24, 2017 at 10:22 am

I don’t believe it has one, really. It seems to have evolved as a design element; something novel and fun to draw/look at

I have a friend that received what she thinks is some sort of scarab braclet. The stones are different colors but are engraved the same on top. The bottoms of each stone is engraved which looks like hieroglyphics symbols which looks the same on each one. There are 5 symbols top left is resembling a lower case backward h squared and tilted slightly. Next to that is a 8 point rd star, under the star is an X which looks like Roman numeral with line on top and bottom the bottom of x is smaller than top, next to that is a zigzag with 5 lines has 2 peaks and gets smaller also has a disconnected line next to last line and with a connecting inverted v touch in bottom of zig zag line, last on bottom another zigzag line w 6 lines. Any help appreciated so I can let her know what to do with it.

Sounds like a fairly typical Egyptian revival piece, to be st. The marks may have meaning, but it may just be a makers mark.

sean December 6, 2016 at 4:55 pm

I had this image in my dream. I drew two versions one within a circle and one without. I can’t tell exactly how it was in my dream.

I scoured all over the internet looking for it. And some say a triangle within a circle represent satan, others say it represents alcoholics anonymous.

None has anything to say about the line crossing the edge of the triangle. Can you provide any insight? I also heard a name “martin” along with the image.

Maybe it’s something, maybe it’s nothing.

Jason October 13, 2016 at 7:01 am

I was wondering if someone could help me. I can send a payment through like PayPal.

I bought a bunch of fabric for my home from Wal-Mart. I think its full of occult symbols. I don’t know if its something I want in my home. There is several different ones. I included a few links. A lot of it is gold diamonds and lines. I’m not sure if its supposed to be God’s eye looking through. There is some with arrows. Some is black and gold lightening which I think represents the devil. I’m not sure.

Jennifer October 25, 2016 at 11:01 pm

Looks like ordinary fabric patterns to me.

I am researching world symbols of the winter solstice, summer solstice, spring equinox and autumnal equinox for a tattoo. I am looking for simple symbols that can will translate simply to the tattoo. They need be simple as the area in which the tattoo will be going is limited in space and hard work to put in fine detail.

I have done some research myself and have the Sign and Symbols Source book, but the info on the solstices / equinox front is rather limited.

Do you have any info / links you can help me with here?

Kind regards,

Hi there,

I was just watching a new music video from Bon Iver, and it was full of symbology which was unfamiliar to me. One in particular stood out, which I can’t for the life of my find anywhere. I wonder if it is actually unique, or from somewhere I’m missing?

Thanks so much for your site — I love it!

Just curious about a symbol meaning.
Wanting to see if it’s a new little church down the road from us.
It’s a circle with a square shape in the middle turned sideways like a diamond.
And I saw a lot of people all visiting each other in the parking lot. So I just wanted to know if it was a church religion symbol .
Thank you,
Have a nice day

Jennifer June 30, 2016 at 5:19 am

That sounds like the logo for Narcotics anonymous. A lot of chapters meet up in church spaces. :)

Hey there, I’m looking for info on this particular symbol thats used as a cover for this band ZNNTH. The whole motif of the band’s imagery seems to suggest Pagan influence and it somewhat resembles the pagan sign for Witch, but I wanted some clarification

Our home was rented to people that we believe practiced Santoria. They made symbols over all the doorways and Windows. Arrows going up and down with X or o on top or bottom of them, with a long arrow as a middle line, with arrow on each end? ( hope that makes sense) what does this mean? Also the house reeks of tobacco/I sense smell, what’s that all about? Any idea of how to get rid of it?

Nici April 21, 2016 at 12:32 am

I’m not sure if anyone is still checking up on this website but I found this symbol and I’m very curious by it.. It could mean nothing but if it is heard of, I’m dying to know. I searched through all of the symbols here and still found nothing.
I’ll try to explain it as clearly as I can.

On the upper part is three parallel lines (however, the one in the middle is slightly higher). On top of all three lines is a dot. there is also the top portion of a triangle going through all of the lines. Under the bottom of the middle line a triangle (but not touching the line) starts and this one is a completed triangle.

I’m not sure if that description makes any sense but if anyone has heard of it, please get back to me! Much love xx

Jennifer April 18, 2016 at 4:31 pm

Looks like a fanciful quasi-nordic rune stave design. The wheel is a rune stave, there are some wolf paws, and the lines below are runes. It seems to be a bit of fantasy art but is definitely trying to achieve a Norse feel.

This is a bit of a detective mystery happening locally to me – this was found etched into a Church wall in a village in England. it looks like a runic ‘N’ shape but with a cross and star added. Any ideas?

Jennifer April 14, 2016 at 3:12 pm

Hi J- I have definitely seen this before, but it’s eluding me. I want to say it’s a glyph for an asteroid, but I’ll have to do some looking.

Maria March 7, 2016 at 7:11 pm

I came across this article
the thing is the symbol looks really familiar. I’ve seen it before. Can you please tell me if you recognise it?

Thank you

Flyingdot March 6, 2016 at 7:59 am

Hi, while trying to find something about a symbol i saw while meditating, i came upon your site. I didn’t find the symbol (wel i think the symbol is actually a mix of symbols ) on your site. I’ll explain tho how it looked like and i hope you might have an explanation for it. First the emblem has tow circles , one bigger then the other , the smallest one is inside the bigger one , both sharing the same center. inside the smallest circle there’s an ankh where the base show also 3 vertical lines in it. From 9 o’clock position to 3 o’clock position there are 7 little stars above the ankh. The base color of the emblem was red (bordeaux red) and the lines where gold/dark yellow. I hope you might have seen this somewhere. Greetings (i’m sorry i had posted this comment on another page but seems i better put it here )

Dear Manager of this website – I’m writing a manuscript on the Big Five religions of the world, namely Judaism, Buddhism, Hinduism, Islam, and Christianity, as well as on Traditional African Religion. Am I allowed to use a few of the symbols on this website for illustration purposes? I will fully recognise your ownership. What will the text be to be used for this purpose? Thank you.

Jennifer March 2, 2016 at 1:55 am

That would be acceptable. :)

Hermanus Wolvaardt March 2, 2016 at 12:30 pm

Thank you so much, Jennifer. I will let you know which symbols were used, as well as when the manuscript is published. Success with your valuable venture.

Hello there,

I have a notebook that I draw the symbols and take some notes about them. I need a ”blocking symbol” to block&restrict the energy of those symbols that I drew. I have searched on your website but could not find any of. Could you help me?

Laurel January 21, 2016 at 2:31 am

I have a piece of jewelry, possibly a kilt pin, with what looks like Celtic heraldry – it features a ram’s head (authority) and two plummets (equity and upright person, virtuous person) incised with what looks like runes very similar to a pi symbol.

This combination made sense to me, given the use of mathematical formulas by ancient builders in to tap and harness the power and energy of the cosmos. Argument is, the rune – if that’s what it is – is more like a bar over an inverted “V,” which is slightly curved out – in other words, a Pi symbol’s “legs” are distinctly separate. It also closely resembles a symbol for “male” without the head.

Thanks for your site, hopefully you can help me out! Happy New Year!

Jennifer January 26, 2016 at 6:31 am

First, let me say, that is a very lovely piece! It does seem a bit of a mystery, but let me dig a bit and see if I can come up with anything.

Laurel February 4, 2016 at 12:48 pm

Thanks, Jennifer – if it helps at all, those are not pearls, I believe it’s volcanic rock and it’s not gold, it’s gilded brass. Not an expensive piece, but really caught my eye and imagination. The pin itself if pretty small, so it may or may not be a kilt pin.

Someone threw this in, which matches it very closely, but gives no info on the rune:

Here’s a better picture of it:

Jennifer February 7, 2016 at 9:32 am

It does look like a kilt pin to me. The lava is definitely unusual, I’m betting this is a unique piece.

I have a bit more in depth about the Salmon here:

Alianna November 24, 2015 at 3:15 pm

Hi! There’s this repeating symbol in all of my dreams. It changes periodically, not too specific, but it’s like a half circle with three circles on it. I don’t think that’s exactly what it’s meant to look like, as it changes, but nothing I’m finding is all too specific. It comes up a lot in relation to a name I’ve been dreaming about for two years, but I don’t know who it is. The closest I’ve come is with the anchor symbol for Astraea, who has appeared in my dreams since the first time the other name I mentioned came around. She’s always said she was my mother in some way, especially when I meditate, so I trust that, but I’m just not sure that’s what it is. Any help would be wonderful!

A few of them resemble Icelandic runes, probably unintentionally.

My daughter was giving this coin/necklace. We know it is a widow’s mite and I know the story from the bible. However I don’t know what the symbols and signs on the it mean. Does anyone have any idea what they stand for. I don’t want to unknowingly open doors that are meant to stay closed. Any information is appreciated.

Jennifer September 29, 2015 at 12:54 pm

Hi Stephanie- it reads “Yehonatan the king” in old Hebrew and refers to Alexander.

It’s really just a decorative knot. Despite what many jewelry sellers claim, most of them have no meaning.

DeborahMacDonald September 2, 2015 at 8:44 am

I was shown a symbol of a fleurdelis on a pentagram. Do you know what it represents.?(a fleur de lis on a coin on a pentagram)

Jennifer September 5, 2015 at 1:00 pm

Without seeing it, it’s hard to say. Off the top of my head, though, it sounds like a novelty item, maybe a hoodoo talisman.

sherry August 5, 2015 at 11:38 pm

On an old print, along with the ‘copywrite’ (c in a circle) I see an ‘h’ inside a circle. What is this mean? I’ll send pic.

Jennifer August 7, 2015 at 1:36 pm

Hi Sherry, that may have indicated a Welsh copyright, but outside of that I’m mystified.
